AUTUMN PARISH MEETING - 2007
October 7, 2007
Fr. George opened the meeting with prayer and expressed appreciation for the quietness of the new acoustic material. Fifty plus people were in attendance. According to the bylaws, article 2, section 3 the meeting was held to select new vestry and present coming programs, which can be checked on the website, stpetersparish.org.
I. Review of coming programs:
A. Wednesdays For All have two more sessions on What One Person Can Do (MDG):
10/10 - Sustainable Environment and Renewable Sources of Energy (M. Spicer)
10/17 - Women’s Empowerment and Universal Elementary Education (K. Young)
B. Adult Christian Formation (Sundays) - Season of Creation, 7 weeks
C. Theology on Tap - for 21-39ish folks, 2nd Wed. of each month at O’Kane’s after Wed.
dinner
D. Journey to Adulthood for middle and high school youth - a two year program beginning with “Bright Thirteen”, based on the idea that manhood and woman hood is a gift, but adulthood is earned. There will be a Rite 13 blessing in the future.
E. Other events:
10/21 - Feast Day of St. Luke with healing services and beach cleanup at 3:00
10/27&28 - Founders to Camp Weed for overnight retreat
11/4 - All Saints Day - Jazz at 8:45, baptism and blessing/dedication of various
plaques for Giving Campaign
11/7 - WFA - Stewardship Party
11/11 - Turn in pledges
11/17&18 - Alternate Gifts Market (9-2 Sat), 8-1 Sun) - opportunities for volunteers
and outreach. Sesquicentennail memorabilia will be available for sale,
as will be the Lift Every Voice and Sing hymnals for use in our services
and donated as memorials or thanksgivings. (The Oyster Roast will also
have Sesquicentennial memorabilia with their auction.)
11/20 - Community Thanksgiving Service - Kimberly Still will be the preacher.
12/2 - Host Bereaved Parents Service @ 5:00. Parish will provide dinner.
12/9 - Kimberly’s ordination in Jacksonville
12/13 - Jazz concert
12/22 - Ken Thompson concert
1/6 - Kickoff the Sesquicentennial Year with two services (8 and 10:30), with a festive breakfast and Bishop Howard in attendance.
II. Stewardship Campaign will be low key this year, due to the recent Giving Campaign. On 11/7 at WFA there will be a dinner with Charley Hoskins as guest speaker. Packets and pledge cards will be given. Fr. George expressed his thanks for the incredible generosity of the parishioners.
III. Selection of new vestry - Names were drawn from the slate developed by the nominating Committee. The new vestry members will be Asa Gillette, Jon Lasserre, Delores Lord, Lena Watson. Retiring members are Early McCall, Cheryl Smith, Ben Stephens, Trey Warren.
Convention delegates were selected by acclamation: Jim Corbett and Ilona Preliou to join Pat Burns.
In closing, a special sesquicentennial song was presented by the “Not Ready for Prime Time” singers. Highlights for the coming year were presented. Joanne Roach and Lorraine Corbett are co-chairs for that celebration.
Appreciation and thanks were given for those who completed the new kneelers which are being assembled for blessing on Christmas Eve. Thanks were also given to Margaret Tassey and Julie Smith for the new St. Peter’s banner which is being readied in time for Kimberley’s ordination. Appreciation was also expressed for the group that is developing a book on St. Peter’s windows.
Fr. George also thanked all of the parishioners who attended the meeting and all who are a part of this wonderful parish. A special thanks was given to Liza and Dan Rhoades and Bonnie Johnson who organized the wine and cheese tables.
The meeting ended with Fr. George giving his special parish blessing.
