Jazzin’ Up the Island in 2008
The October weather may have cooled off but Fernandina Beach, Florida, was heating up to the sounds of the 2008 Les DeMerle Amelia Island Jazz Festival.
From October 5th through the 12th, 2008 the Amelia Island Jazz Festival, a not-for-profit 501c3 charitable organization, once again lit up the island with a week-long series of events celebrating the diverse all-American art form, jazz. Under the creative direction of renowned jazz drummer and bandleader, Les DeMerle, the festival kicked-off on Sunday, October 5th, with a free jazz concert, continuing Monday, October 6th, through Thursday, October 9th, with a Sponsors’ Party and educational programs for youth in the schools, for families and for seniors. The festival peaked with weekend jazz concerts at the lovely St. Peter’s Church Courtyard on Friday, October 10th and 11ththen continued with a Sunday Jazz Brunch on October 12th. All concerts featured world-class jazz artists in a wide variety of styles including Dixieland, Smooth Jazz, Bebop, Big Band, Blues, Latin and more at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church Courtyard and several other charming venues on beautiful Amelia Island, Florida.
