Faith Formation

Adult Formation

Christian formation is a lifelong process. We are never “done”—in fact, the more we get, the more we want and need more. We are formed through relationship—relationship with God and each other, especially our relationship with those who are in need. Education happens in the sharing of our stories and the listening to the stories of others. There is education in listening to the biblical stories, the stories of spiritual giants before us, and in listening to each other’s stories. Formation is when we put all those experiences together. It is through these experiences along with worship, music, outreach and breaking bread together that we are transformed.

Children’s Formation

Children come to us full of wonder and joy, and already knowing something about God. Do you believe that? Although it is not the traditional view of children throughout history, it has been argued that this is the view that Jesus held. If this is true, it is our task to nourish the seeds of God’s love that have already been sown, and to help our children find ways to strengthen their relationship with God throughout their lives and especially helping them to be comfortable with the questions. We do this through the stories of the Bible and our Church, by encouraging their wonder, helping them discover their deep joy, and by welcoming them as full members of St Peter’s where we cherish their presence, and it blesses us when we do.

Youth Formation

Youth, defined as 6-12 graders, are in a special category–no longer children, not quite adults. They have been blessed with the imagination of childhood and the strength and creative power of womanhood and manhood. It is our goal to help our young people journey into their adulthood knowing that this community cares about them and will help them to become the best persons they can possibly be. The community of St Peter’s–which spans the generations, pledges to guide, guard and sustain them as they grow into the full stature of Christ, making this a place where they can learn to be comfortable in the questions. We show them (not just talk about) the Christian message.
