The Journey to Adulthood

RITE-13 (grades 7-9) — 6:15-7:30 p.m. Wednesday Evenings

What is RITE-13? The first phase of the Journey to Adulthood, a program of spiritual formation for young people. This group was formed in the fall of 2007 and is beginning their second year together. As several have turned 13 they were invited to participate in a special liturgy in the church called the Celebration of Manhood & Womanhood. Key concepts are manhood & womanhood are gifts from God, but adulthood must be earned. In the fall of 2009 they will comprise the first J2A group and begin planning a spiritual pilgrimage, which they will be invited on for the summer of 2010.

What is the Celebration of Manhood & Womanhood? All who have recently turned 13 will be invited to participate in this unique liturgical ceremony to celebrate the transition from childhood to adulthood. It is a liturgy done in the midst of a regular Sunday Eucharistic service. It charges the congregation and others in the youth group to support these young people on their journey. We pray for their parents and offer support for them as they begin to slowly let go and let some of the leaders in the church partner with them on the journey to adulthood.

Prayer, MDG’s & Youth 6th through 12th grades — 10:10-11:00 A.M. Sunday Mornings

During the Christian Formation for ALL hour on Sunday Mornings all, 6-12 graders are invited to work together on the Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s) while deepening their prayer life. Instead of just talking about the MDG’s, young people will be doing things like making items to sell at the Alternative Gifts Market and exploring other ways to make a difference in the world.go top

Episcopal Youth Community (EYC)

Sunday Night EYC 5:00-7:30: All 6th-12th graders are invited to join us and bring a friend or 2 or 7! We always have a variety of fun things going on Sunday nights at EYC. Fun with a purpose is what we are all about. Dinner, games, music, discussions, movies, guest speakers, and lots of other activities are planned. We take a ski trip in January, a Spring Break trip and a mission trip in the summer. So come… we can’t wait to see you!

Monday Night High School C-groups 5:00-8:00: Monday nights are a laid-back time for discussion, fellowship, planning, and the basic coming together of our high school aged youth to share and have fun together. We may be eating dinner out one night, having an in-depth discussion the next, and another time we may be planning for Souper Youth Sunday. Come join us!

Wednesdays 4 All !!! 6:15-7:30 p.m.

The Journey to Adulthood program, including RITE-13, is moving to Wednesday Evenings. This year we are offering a program that several of us have now been trained to teach. Our Whole Lives / Sexuality & Faith (OWL) is an abstinence-based curriculum, an approach statistically proven to be more effective than the abstinence-only approach our schools are allowed to teach. We feel it’s a wholesome way for church leaders to partner with parents, the primary sexual educators. Other churches using the OWL curriculum have found most parents are happy to have help in this area. We will offer it at three levels that will meet at the same time: OWL for grades 5-6 (Rm 204); OWL for RITE-13 grades 7-9 (Rm 206); OWL for grades 10-12 (Rm 205). NOTE: Participation in OWL is only open to those with written approval from parents. For more information, contact Kristina Smith or Brian Moody.
