The Journey to Adulthood
The Journey to Adulthood balances Bible study, prayer, and both serious and playful activiities to nurture the whole person during the difficult passage from childhood to adulthood. Leaders model living the faith and remind young people of the ever-present love and mercy of God. The goal of The Journey to Adulthood is to form youth as fully participating members.

The first phase of the Journey to Adulthood, a program of spiritualformation for young people. This group is learning how to build relationshipwith each other as they resonate with several of the biblical stories(especially the stories regarding call). As these young persons reach their13th birthday, they are invited to participate in a special liturgy in thechurch called the Celebration of Manhood & Womanhood. Key concepts aremanhood & womanhood are gifts from God, but adulthood must be earned. Inthe fall of 2011 they will comprise the next J2A group and begin planning aspiritual pilgrimage, which they will be invited on for the summer of 2013.

J2A is thesecond two-year segment of the Journey to Adulthood program. In many ways J2Ais the heart of the entire program. During the J2A phase, teens learn andpractice six basic skills for adulthood: active listening, negotiation, assertion, research & information management, partnership, and leadership. They also learn different methods of Scripture reading, prayer andcommunity-building. During their two years together, they are invited to make aholy pilgimage. The pilgrimage is the highlight of the program for youth andthe congregation as these young people return transformed by the experience. After two years in J2A they are acknowledged as being equipped for new levelsof responsibility and are given an opportunity to be confirmed.

All who have recently turned 13 will be invited to participate in thisunique liturgical ceremony to celebrate the transition from childhood toadulthood. It is a liturgy done in the midst of a regular Sunday Eucharisticservice. It charges the congregation and others in the youth group tosupport these young people on their journey. We pray for their parents and offer support for them as theybegin to slowly let go and let some of the leaders in the church partner withthem on the journey to adulthood
Wednesdays for ALL 6:00-7:30 p.m.
The Journey to Adulthood (J2A) program, including RITE-13 and now the J2A class, moved to Wednesday Evenings in the fall of 2008 when we offered Our Whole Lives / Sexuality & Faith (OWL), an abstinence-based curriculum. We feel OWL is a wholesome way for church leaders to partner with parents, the primary sexual educators; most parents are happy to have help in this area. We will offer the 7th and 8th grade OWL in 2010-11, plus another class for 5th and 6th graders at that time. The High School OWL won’t be offered again until 2011-12 after the J2A Pilgrimage. For more information, contact the parish office.
