2010 ECW Retreat of Discovery
Seventeen women attended the 2010 ECW Retreat at Camp Weed during one of the coldest winters in recent memory. The organizers were Charlie Russ, Cynthia Alred, Nancy Carpenter, Ellen Flenniken, Bonnie Johnson, and Debbra Sullivan. This was our first experiment with a two-night stay and the extra time allowed for some much appreciated down time and flexibility. The cold and rain kept the rockers empty and, as usual, we brought too much food. The camp staff spoiled us rotten with Prime Rib and hand delivered muffins, still hot from the oven.
Toby Atkinson led us in workshops using the Myers-Briggs typology as a tool to explore individual differences. We learned more about ourselves and how to nurture our uniqueness and gifts. We learned that others may have different ways of recharging their energy, different waysof seeing things, different ways of coming to decisions, different needs for structure and different ways of praying and developing our spirituality. And we learned that we need all those differences. We really do need each other.
Liz Mc Call and Susan Ralph led the music and, yes, dancing; we had Morning Prayer and Compline led by Illona Preliou and Margaret Tassey; and at the end we had a moving service led by Toby Atkinson in Mandy’s chapel.
We had special guests as well. God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit were all powerfully present the whole weekend. And we also felt the spirit of Lorraine Corbett. Bonnie Johnson sent a pottery angel to represent her and that went home with Toby.
In February 2010, seventeen women from St. Peters had a wonderful weekend to be with God and each other.
