Overview

In 1985 the St. Peter’s Mission Committee began repairing Caribbean churches damaged by hurricanes. To date there have been over 75 men and women who have participated in this mission, providing much needed repairs to churches in 11 different parishes on six different islands. Projects have ranged from installing tile floors to replacing complete roofs. Very few of the participants are skilled trades people. Our volunteers come from all walks of life, ranging from doctors, lawyers, business executives, college professors, architects, to clergy, with a few actual skilled people mixed in. Volunteers not only give of their time, but also pay all their own expenses for the trip.

Each year St. Peter’s holds an Oyster Roast and Silent Auction that provides the funds needed to buy the necessary materials for each project. A new major project is undertaken every other year.

Not only has the Mission Committee traveled far and wide, but recently it was called upon to put a new roof on the maintenance shed at Camp Weed. This group stands ready to serve when called.

Since the committee’s founder, Bill Thweatt, died in 2006, the committee has been under the outstanding leadership of Jim Corbett.
